It's been awhile since we've heard new material from LA's BANKS. Her debut album Goddess dropped back in 2014. Since then she's put in substantial road time with the likes of The Weeknd and, more recently, been holed up in the studio working on new music.
In fact, while premiering her new track ‘Fuck With Myself’ with Zane Lowe over on Beats 1, the singer confirmed that the followup to Goddess is on the way later this year. The album, also titled Fuck With Myself, will land on September 30 via Virgin EMI (UK) and Harvest Records (US).
Speaking to her whirlwind rise following the release of the London EP in 2013, and Goddess the following year, BANKS told Lowe of making this new album:
"For me, these last few years have been so crazy and it all came out in my music and it all came out in this album."
Along with the new track, BANKS unveiled a brilliant new video. Directed by Philippa Price and produced by MAAVVEN, the video is at once arresting and disturbing. Contorted dancers writhe in a derelict container; BANKS herself abuses and sets a replica bust of herself on fire.
Both in terms of the track's production and the visual compliment, 'Fuck With Myself' is a departure from her previous somber-sultry vibe. More importantly though, 'Fuck With Myself' is a statement that with her new album the singer will continue to reimagine the R&B/pop culture clash that she so embodies.
